Troubleshooting

Why another program may show a different chart

Each program that casts historical charts has researched the world's old clocks on its own, so two programs can disagree on the same birth. Arcus works the offset out from the birth place and date, with its own tables for old local and national clocks, as described on what clock your birth time is on.

If your own source settles a clock that Arcus has no rule for, send it to support@arcusastrology.com with the place and the date and we will look at it.

If you know your source is right and Arcus reads it differently, set the offset yourself, on set the offset by hand.

A card is empty because the chart has no birth time or place

A chart saved without a birth time, or without a birthplace, can still be cast, but any technique that needs the angles, the houses or the horizon leaves out what it cannot find. A card that looks empty or greyed is usually waiting for one of the two. Edit the chart to add them. Untimed charts are cast for Noon or Sunrise, with their angles hidden, as set under Chart frame settings.

These need a birth time.

  • Zodiacal releasing, decennials and the Dignities card, and their lanes on the life timeline.
  • Firdaria, primary directions and Chart balance, which need the place as well.
  • Natal and progressed lines on the Earth map, the Primary directions panel on the Armillary, the Sky tab of the Fixed stars card, and the House tab of the event finder.
  • Progressions leaves out the progressed Moon, Profections profects from the Sun, Circumambulation can release only from the Sun, and Lots lists only the lots made of planets alone.
  • The Dashboard cards leave out whatever depends on it.
  • Research search leaves the chart out of any condition that needs houses, angles, lots or sect.

These need a birthplace.

  • Planetary hours, Notices, and Local space on the Earth map.
  • The Parans and Phases tabs of the Fixed stars card, In mundo and Co-rising contacts, and Azimuth on the Midpoints card.
  • Directing by circumambulation, and the rising times of the signs on the Ascensional times card.

What needs an account

Signed out, Arcus opens on the Dashboard, reads the sky only, and every other mode shows a lock. Saving charts, folders and favorites, notes and events, imports, research projects, Elect, Notices, data recovery, publishing a list and a picture of your own in a skin all need an account, and your settings and saved skins go with the account to every device you sign in on. The Ephemeris, Meanings and downloading a list work signed out. Sign in on Your account and data.

An import held a row back

When an import lists a chart but does not cast it, the row is missing something Arcus needs to put the birth on a clock, or carries a value that can be read two ways. A row with no coordinates and no time zone is held out until you look the place up at the review step. A two-digit year is flagged for you to settle. A bare time zone number is read as east of Greenwich, and a control flips it. Charts already in your library are left out on purpose. The checks are on what to check after an import, and how zones in a file are read is on zones on the charts you import.

Arcus words

These are the words the guide uses for the parts of Arcus, each with the chapter that covers it.

  • Workspace tab: one open chart, or a stack of charts, along the top of the Chart screen, on workspace tabs.
  • Ring: one chart drawn as a band on a wheel, so a tab can hold a natal chart with its transits or progressions around it, on tabs, rings and wheels.
  • Stack: several charts on one tab as rings of one wheel, on tabs, rings and wheels.
  • Rail: the two lists of techniques either side of the wheel on a computer, where you open each card, on technique rails.
  • Card: the panel a technique opens into, with its reading, its tabs and its own gear, on technique rails.
  • Timeline bar: the strip under the wheel that lays the techniques out across a life, on the life timeline.
  • Research: the phone screen that holds the technique cards, on Research on a phone.
  • Your Orbit: the set of charts you follow on the Dashboard, each with a chip on its top row, on the Dashboard.
  • Favorites: a star you put on a chart so it is gathered under Favorites in Saved Charts and starred on its tab, on saved charts.
  • Setup: a saved set of jobs that tells the Graph, the Dashboard, Notices and a list which transits and progressions to follow, on the Graph jobs.
  • List: a dated list built in Calendar and lists, to publish as a calendar or download as a file, on Calendar and lists.
  • Skin: the colours of Arcus, with or without a picture behind the workspace, on Skins.
  • Surface: which device a page is for, Computer or Phone, where the steps differ, on Arcus on a phone.
